The Ray Charles project is called Au Palais des Sports-Live and was recorded in 1961 during his first European tour! The Serge Gainsbourg project, Premiers Tubes-Live, is composed of two live-on-radio sets recorded in 1961 and 1962 and contains an exclusive interview with Juliette Gréco, another French icon from that period. And thirdly, Premières Scènes-Live is a recording of Dalida’s first appearances on stage at the renowned Olympia in 1961 and on the radio show Discoparade in 1962.

“No Brainer”: So I’m not really hearing, like, “chords” here — just the bass line with the funky leading tone, the ping-riff thing, and the baby-robot notes. I mean, together they do sort of make “chords,” but it’s pretty subjective. I’ll tell you what, though: I’m not building chords off the fifth and sixth notes of the bass line. I just don’t hear vi and V chords like I’m hearing the other chords I can pick out of this loop soup.

The video for “In the 1970’s” (above) is brilliant. Have you always felt free to incorporate humor into your work? I’m impressed when people have the courage not to take themselves too seriously.

Grant funding for music therapy

Music is everywhere, and stock music pops up in a variety of places including shops, podcasts, meditation CDs, elevators, and corporate training videos. The Guardian UK says that everything from a simple keyboard motif to an epic orchestral track is needed by music libraries to sell to customers for a variety of purposes.

Lyrically, the verse “back ends” coalesce in a cool way, using similar lines and then the same lines — which you could call lazy, but I don’t think you should be smarmy about anything in pop that you don’t see too often. Good going, whichever one of you five Maroony guys crafted this cool little “words-zipper.” My money’s on the tall Gump-cut guy, he seems like he’s going places — he must be a solid dude for all these women to let him sing in their video.

Best rap albums of all time

When I first discovered there was such a thing as “Music For Dogs,” I was kind of shocked I hadn’t come across it sooner. I mean, there is now music and playlists to accompany everything, so of course there’d be one for our favorite four-legged fur-balls (sorry cat lovers). Well, Mr. Puppy was in for a treat because over the next week I’d go on to try an array of made-for-dogs style playlists.

Artists live and work on the island for two to four weeks and engage directly with the landscape, “responding to notions of conservation, ecology, and sustainability via their research and cultural practices.” Musicians are welcome to apply.

Recovery after Maria needs to be viewed in the context of all this, including the island’s position as a colony that’s under full control of the US, often with unsympathetic and oppressive consequences.

Does the solitary fact that Once Upon a Time in Shaolin eschews all forms of distribution and mass-listenability effectively set it apart from its counterparts? I’m not sure the answer is yes, but I would argue that it’s at least a very good step in that direction.

Modes and Key Signatures have a variety of different characteristics and are great for outside-the-box songwriting. Here’s a cheat sheet to remember them!
